Hearty Chicken and Dumplings
Description
This is a basic Chicken Noodle Soup with Dumplings. It can be served as Chicken, Noodles and Dumplings or you may serve it as a soup. Just add as much broth as you want.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup diced onions
- 12 cups of water
- 12 chicken bullion cubes
- 1 1/2 lbs of boneless chicken cut into 1" cubes
- 2-3 carrots, peeled and diced
- 2-3 stalks celery, diced
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 lb. of egg noodles
- 1 can prepared country style biscuits (10 per can)
Methods/steps
- Saute the diced onions in the butter for approx. 10 minutes on medium heat until transucent.
- Add the water and chicken bullion cubes to the sauteed onions and bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Add the chicken,carrots, bay leaf and celery and turn the burner to low or simmer for about 1-1 1/2 hour.
- Add the egg noodles (1 bag). Continue to cook on low until noodles are tender.
- Turn the burner to medium heat and add the biscuits to the chicken and noodles. After about 5 minutes poke the biscuts down our ladle broth over them. After another 5 minutes flip the biscuits over.
- Turn off the burner, cover until serving.
Additional Tips
If you have family members running in and out, eating at different times you may transfer this to a crockpot and keep on warm for many hours.
